Instant terminal

Instant terminal, a Linux-based command line interface, lets you automatically connect to your terminal from any web browser—no extensions, add-ons, or extra packages required.

Technical requirements

Instant terminal uses the HTTP or HTTPS ports 80 and 443 to remove the risk of having to open port 22. This also removes the need for the permissions required to download a terminal on a corporate network.

Important: Your corporate network settings could block certain actions within your cloud environment or instances. Work with your IT/Security team if you encounter issues or want to check for restrictions ahead of time.

Launching Instant terminal

You can launch Instant terminal from the Hands-on playground. You can also easily launch Instant terminal from within a running Hands-on cloud lab.

From the Hands-on playground

  1. Click Hands-on in the navigation menu.
  2. In the Hands-on Playground tab, click Get Started in the Instant Terminal tile.
  3. Click Launch Terminal.

From a Hands-on lab

  1. Select a Hands-on lab from the Skills labs library (opens in new tab).
  2. Click Start Lab.
  3. In the Lab Tools section, click Instant Terminal.

Instant terminal will open in a new tab. When you connect, the terminal displays instructions on how to use it, as well as advanced SSH options.
