Tip: Before getting started, make sure you understand what skill assessments are and how to get your Skill IQ. This will help you as you learn about Role IQ.
Overview
Roles are built by Pluralsight's author network, industry leaders, and partners using a foundation of skill assessments in various technologies. If you're on a team with custom roles, you can also explore roles built by your organization. Skill IQ assessments are the metric used to gauge Role IQ proficiency.
Your Role IQ page
Your Role IQ page (opens in new tab) is where you explore new roles and interact with in-progress or assigned roles. You can also revisit completed roles and reassess your skills when Skill IQ retakes are available.
The My roles section of the page shows roles you've started, roles you've been assigned (if you’re on a team plan), and roles you've completed. There are three types of roles that can appear in the My roles section:
-
In-progress roles will show how many assessments you’ve completed, the total number of required assessments to complete, and if any assessment retakes are available.
-
Assigned roles display similarly to in-progress roles, but also labeled Assigned.
-
Completed roles show the role level, verification date, and if any assessment retakes are available.
To remove a role from your My Roles area, click the ••• options menu in the role, then click Remove. Don't worry—you’ll keep your Role IQ progress, but it won’t appear in My Roles. You can’t remove a completed or assigned role.
The Explore roles section shows all available roles. Depending on your plan type, you may also see roles created by someone at your company. Each role displays the Skill IQ requirements you’ve achieved, the number of required assessments, the names of required skill assessments, and the creator of the role. If the role was created by your company, it will also have a Company tag.
Interacting with a role
If you’ve already taken a few Skill IQ assessments in Skills, you may see progress in a Role IQ, even if you've haven't started it yet. That’s because progress in Skill IQ assessments is automatically synced in Role IQ.
Important: You must return to a role after finishing a Skill IQ assessment for Role IQ to recalculate your role progress and mark the role as completed. This will ensure the most up-to-date role information is available to admins and managers in analytics.
To start or continue a Role IQ:
- Navigate to your Role IQ page (opens in new tab) by clicking Role IQ in the learner navigation menu.
- Click a role under My roles or find a new role under Explore roles.
- If you’re interacting with a role for the first time, select your current experience level for the role from the on-screen prompt.
-
In the Skills section, click a skill assessment you would like to take.
- If you’ve never taken this skill assessment, click Measure now on the graph.
- If you’ve taken this skill assessment before and you have a retake available, click Retake now.
After you complete the assessment, you’ll see your results. The Skill IQ summary page shows your gaps and strengths and provides you with learning recommendations. You can then return to the Role IQ page to see your progress.
Some roles have optional assessments in addition to the required assessments. Our role authors have decided these skills are important, but not required for the role. These assessments aren’t used in your Role IQ level or progress calculations.
Important: You may come across a skill assessment in a role marked BETA. This means we're still validating the skill assessment. Your Role IQ will be pending. Once a skill assessment is moved out of beta, you must take the assessment again in order to finish your Role IQ.
