Skills and ACG hands-on labs, sandboxes, interactive courses, and projects include a built-in code editor for you to use in the platform or cloud console while completing the course challenges.
For many video courses, you may wish to follow along with the course or practice the skills you learn on your own. For this, you’ll need to choose your own code editor or integrated development environment (IDE).
Pluralsight does not endorse any specific code editors or IDEs. Any simple text editor already on your workstation will work, including NotePad (Win) and TextEdit (Mac).
However, we do not recommend using a word processor such as WordPad, MS Word, Google Docs, or Pages. These tend to add special, hidden formatting information which can interfere with your code.
Many instructors have a favorite IDE which they use to illustrate the skills taught in the course. If you’re just starting out, using the same tools the instructor demonstrates can make it easier to follow along. This can also give you experience with multiple tools when taking courses by a variety of instructors. When you move into a commercial environment, you may need to change to whatever tools your team uses. Having experience with multiple tools can assist with this transition.
