Getting access to Iris
Team plans
To get access to Iris on your team plan, you must request to opt in to the feature. This means that your plan won’t have access to Iris without Pluralsight turning it on first. Iris can only be turned on for a whole plan.
If you’re a plan admin and you’re interested in adding Iris to your plan at no additional charge, speak to your Pluralsight contact. If you don’t have a Pluralsight contact, email Pluralsight Sales (opens email form) for assistance.
Individual subscribers
If you’re an individual subscriber that isn't attached to a team plan, Iris is automatically added to your navigation menu. Access to Iris requires a paid Skills subscription.
Iris overview
In the past, Iris has been the driving force behind Skill IQ, empowering millions of learners with adaptive skill assessments and personalized learning recommendations. With generative AI, Iris has evolved from a personalized recommendation engine to a trusted companion for learners.
Iris uses OpenAI and Pluralsight's Search API to return content within a conversational framework. Chat with Iris to get personalized learning recommendations, save time finding and retrieving relevant content, and use Iris as a study companion. When you enter a prompt, Iris can return a variety of content. Some search terms will return limited results with Iris’ current infrastructure.
For more information about how Iris works, answers to technical questions, and more see Iris, Pluralsight's AI Assistant frequently asked questions (opens in new tab). For information about how Pluralsight uses your data, see Pluralsight Artificial Intelligence Terms of Use (opens in new tab) and our Privacy Notice (opens in new tab).
Getting started with Iris
Important: As with any AI, do not disclose sensitive personal data when using Iris. Chat logs may be utilized for product enhancements. AI recommendations may be inaccurate and should be verified independently.
Iris uses a conversational method of interaction. You can query previous messages to narrow down your learning scope or to get greater clarification on a topic. Iris can use the last 10 queries and responses in the chat to inform its current response. You’ll still have access to a transcript of your conversation, but Iris won’t be able to use previous messages as part of its response outside this 10 query window.
To start using Iris:
- Click Iris in the navigation menu, then select either Full window or Modal overlay mode.
- Click New conversation.
- Type a question into the prompt box,
–or–
Click one of the provided conversation prompts. - Click the arrow button or hit return/enter on your keyboard.
- Add new questions for clarification or to dig deeper into a topic.
Iris automatically names your conversation based on your initial interactions in that conversation.

- I am a senior developer, looking to learn soft skills. Is there anything recommended for growing my career?
- I'm a Junior Specialist in IT but I'd like to become a Database Administrator. What courses should I take?
- I want my team to improve their Python skills. What content do you have for intermediate learners? Are there any Skill IQ assessments they can take?

Iris modes
Use Iris in one of two modes: full window or modal overlay. Use the full window experience to focus on your conversation with Iris in a full-page workspace. Use the modal overlay to use Iris as you explore Skills. Resize and move the overlay window to best suit your needs. The modal overlay doesn’t appear when you are using a lab, taking a Skill IQ assessment, or watching a course.
Switch between modes by clicking Iris in the navigation menu, then click Full window or Modal overlay. You must return to your home page to switch from full window to modal overlay.
Multi-conversation
Both modes of Iris use multi-conversation. Multi-conversation keeps conversations with Iris separate from each other for better organization. Iris can’t use information from one conversation to inform its response in another conversation.
Click New conversation or click one of the quick start conversations prompts to get started.
Individual conversations are automatically named based on the first few prompts you offer to Iris within that conversation. Each conversation shows when the conversation was last updated. Past conversations can be sorted by date, in either ascending or descending order.
You can delete conversations that you no longer need, allowing for a more organized experience. Delete one or more conversations at a time.
Important: Conversation deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.
To delete a conversation:
- Click the ••• options menu, then click Remove conversations.
- Click the checkbox next to the conversation(s) you want to delete.
- Click Remove conversations. Conversations are deleted immediately.
