Insights bulletin
Insights bulletins are sent the first Thursday of every month.
Tip: Depending on your time zone, you may receive your bulletin any time between the first Wednesday and the first Friday of each month.
Each Insights bulletin contains information about six of our most popular metrics:
For each metric, see:
- the most recent month's metric value
- the value for the month before that, for comparison
- the target for the metric
- a chart of the value week-by-week with the percentile benchmarks for comparison
- an analysis of how the metric is trending compared to the percentile benchmarks
- commentary on your metrics changes with some probing questions to ask your team to understand the changes
- recommendations for where to focus to drive or maintain improvements
For more information on any of the metrics, click View report to see information about the metric in Team health insights or Retrospective.
Each Insights bulletin also contains a PDF copy of the report, so you can easily share it with other members of your organization.
Weekly dispatch
Weekly dispatches are sent every Monday.
Tip: Depending on your time zone, you may receive your Weekly dispatch any time between Sunday and Tuesday.
Each weekly dispatch only contains information about the metrics that have deviated beyond the specified threshold when considering the past week's value compared to the past 30 days of data.
The threshold of change for Unreviewed PRs is 5%. The threshold for all other metrics is 10%.
Because this email only reports on metrics which have exceeded the threshold for change, each week's dispatch will contain different metrics. If none of your metrics have met the threshold, Flow will not send a dispatch.
Each metric in the Weekly dispatch contains:
- the percentage change for the trailing week compared to the trailing 30 days
- commentary on details of the changes
- recommendations of areas of focus to improve
Setting up the bulletin
From Metrics overview, click Create Insights bulletin or Manage Insights bulletin. All bulletins you create will have a copy of the previous month's data sent immediately, with subsequent bulletins sent monthly.
Create new bulletin
- Click Subscribe to Insights bulletin.
- Choose whether to send data for Organization or specific Teams.
- If you choose to send an organization-level bulletin, the data included will be for all users in your organization not included from metrics.
- If you choose to send a team-level bulletin, select a single team whose data to include. Then decide whether include nested team data, if the team is a parent of nested teams. Nested team data is excluded by default and must be toggled on to be included.
Note: You cannot select multiple teams unless selecting a parent and all its nested teams. To get data for multiple teams from different places in your team hierarchy, create multiple bulletins.
- Add a list of comma-separated email addresses the bulletin should be sent to. You can only add emails with the same email domain you use to log in to Flow. Recipients aren't required to have access to Flow to receive the Insights bulletin.
Tip: If you want someone with a different email domain to receive the bulletin, either have them log in to configure their own bulletin, or forward the bulletin to their inbox when you receive it.
- Title your bulletin. Give it a memorable title that will help you identify the data inside it, especially if you plan to create several. Make sure you can differentiate between the bulletins in your inbox. Naming it after the team selected is a great start.
- Decide whether to also receive the Weekly dispatch. This option is enabled by default and will allow Flow to send a weekly notification in addition to the bulletin if your metrics for the trailing week change significantly from their trailing 30 day value. This option is enabled by default and is highly recommended.
- Click Subscribe to send and schedule the Insights bulletin.
