    Overlay mode and multi-conversations

Iris is accessible through an overlay window that lets you use the tool as you explore Skills. Resize and move the overlay window to best suit your needs or click the full-window button to focus on Iris Iris won't appear when you are using a lab or sandbox or while taking a Skill IQ assessment.

Iris uses a multi-conversation feature to keep conversations separate from each other for better organization. Iris can’t use information from one conversation to inform its response in another conversation.

    Iris multi-conversation menu

To get started, open Iris by clicking the button on near the search bar. Iris automatically starts a new conversation each time you access it from the menu. If you’re already in Iris, click New conversation or click one of the quick start conversations prompts. Each individual conversation is automatically named based on the first few prompts you give Iris. You can see when a conversation was last updated, and past conversations can be sorted by date, either in ascending or descending order.

To keep things organized, you can delete conversations you no longer need—either one at a time or in bulk.

Important: Conversation deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.

    To delete a conversation:

    1. Click the ••• options menu, then click Remove conversations.
    2. Click the checkbox next to the conversation(s) you want to delete.
    3. Click Remove conversations. Conversations are deleted immediately.

    Using Iris with video courses

In Skills' most popular courses, Iris can gather context based on the clip you are watching and use that context in its responses.

To use Iris while watching a course, click Iris near the search bar, then start the course. Start a new conversation or continue with a previous conversation and ask Iris about the course you’re watching.

You’ll be presented with additional quick start prompts at the new conversation screen while using Iris with the video player. You can also access these prompts by clicking the Iris menu button next to the message box.

    With these prompts you can:

    • Ask about this video: further explain concepts being taught in the video clip you’re watching, such as clarifying vocabulary or comparing similar concepts.
    • Explain simply: summarize the clip you are currently watching in easy to understand bullet points. You can further query Iris for additional information or clarification on these points.
    • See course highlights: shows a list of facts about the course as a whole including its length, difficulty, publishing date, and author qualifications. Iris also provides a bulleted outline of topics that are covered in the course, any prerequisite knowledge needed, as well as what you should be able to do after the course. This is also available from Iris while you’re on the course details page.
    • Check my learning: gives multiple choice questions, one at a time, about the video clip you’re watching. Iris tells you if your answer was correct and explains the reasoning behind the correct answer. You can continue checking your learning or return to the video.
