From your Analytics and history page, you can track your in-progress and completed courses and download a certificate of completion.

Phased release of new analytics and history

To give you the best experience, we use a phased rollout to bring updates to you, including the new analytics and history feature. If this update hasn’t reached you yet, get excited—because great things are coming your way.

How do you know if you've been updated to the new experience? The easiest way is to click your avatar and look at the menu choices. With the legacy feature, you'll see History in the menu choices. With the new feature, you'll see Analytics and history.

Improved data calculations

If you're familiar with the legacy History page, you'll notice some major improvements with how your progress and learning time are calculated in the new Analytics and history page.

We’ve updated how progress is measured to give you a more accurate picture of your learning effort. Previously, every task in a course was weighted equally, so a five-minute video counted the same as a two-hour lab. Now, progress reflects the estimated time and effort of each task. Your actual work hasn't changed. What's changed is that the math now fairly represents how much of the total learning effort you've completed.

For example, let’s look at a 160-minute course consisting of four 10-minute video clips and one 120-minute hands-on lab. With legacy analytics, each task counted equally. So if you've watched all four video clips but not yet taken the hands-on lab, completion would show 80%—even though the most labor-intensive portion of the course is not yet completed.

With the new analytics, each task receives weighted importance. You've completed 40 minutes out of a total estimated 160 minutes, giving you a progress of 25%. Same amount of work completed—but now the math is more accurate.

What this means for you

With this update, the names of a few key metrics have changed to better reflect the newly calculated data. And we've added a few new ones for additional insight. Here are the main ones to keep in mind:

The updated progress calculation doesn't affect your completed courses. If a course was completed before this update, it's still completed. The recalculation only affects courses that were in progress at the time of the update.

So when your plan is updated to the new analytics, you may notice a change in course progress (some may increase, while others may decrease) of in-progress courses.

Navigating the page

Click your avatar, then click Analytics and history.

Your Analytics and history page shows the same information your leaders can see in their individual Analytics by learner view.

The first section of the page contains the filters. A summary of your current filter selections is displayed below the filters for quick reference.

The information displayed on the rest of the page depends on your selection in the Learning type filter.

All learning types

Selecting All learning types displays data and visualizations of two key time-based metrics:

• Learning time: Actual time spent across the following learning types:
  • Practice exams
  • Hands-on labs
  • Skill IQ
  • Video clips
• Practice time: Time spent with open-ended playground environments, including:
  • Sandboxes
  • Cloud server

Note that the following learning types are not included in either of the above metrics:

• Certifications: Displays industry certifications you have manually uploaded—does not represent time spent on the Pluralsight platform
• Prompt sandbox: Displays number of prompts completed rather than time spent

Below the visualizations is the History table. This shows your complete learning history and ignores your selection in the Timeframe filter. See Understanding the data (below) for a listing of data.

Individual learning types

Selecting one of the individual learning types displays data specific to that learning type. Each of these views includes an overview section showing key high-level metrics. See Understanding the data (below) for a listing of data for each learning type.

Below the overview is a table listing your interactions with content from the selected learning type. Depending on your screen resolution, you may need to scroll horizontally to see all columns of the table. If any entry in the table is truncated due to column width, you can hover your mouse over it to see the full text. The Search table box helps you quickly find a specific entry in the table.

You can continue to drill down for more detail by clicking the table entries until you get to a particular piece of content. This view shows you the individual tasks included in that piece of content.

Filtering the data

The Learning type and the Timeframe filters let you customize your view of your analytics and history.

Use the Learning type filter to view data specific to a certain learning type, or select All learning types for a comprehensive view of your learning.

Click Filters to set a timeframe filter. Click Apply after making your selection, or Cancel to abort.

The default view is Last 30 days. Other choices include:

Understanding the data

The data displayed on your Analytics and history page depends on your selections in the filters—particularly the Learning type filter. Some data fields are only found in the lower-level views.

Getting a certificate of completion

Certificates of completion are available for completed courses. They are not available for other learning types.

To download or print a certificate of completion:

1. Click your avatar, then click Analytics and history.
2. Set the Learning type filter to All learning types.
3. Scroll down to the History table.
4. Find the course in the table and click Go to learning. Depending on your screen resolution, you may need to scroll horizontally to see all columns of the table.
5. On the course detail page, click the View completion certificate button.
6. Print the certificate, or save it as a PDF to your desired location.
